Art in the Alley and Other Updates

Munising’s Art in the Alley, which is sandwiched between the former Corktown Bar and Harvest House, was recently put up, transforming the area into an art exhibit as it displays over 70 reproduced works of art from Alger County residents. Spearheaded by the Munising Downtown Development Authority and Alger County Chamber of Commerce, the alley – which is located a block south of Munising Avenue between Superior Street and Elm Avenue - has become a sure sign of the summer season.

Warmer Days on the Horizon

Waterfalls are now flowing thunderously into streams and rivers and the ice has mostly thawed around Munising Bay. Higher temperatures are projected throughout the week, and the welcome signs on the eastern and western ends of Munising were switched from images of ice caves and snowmobiling to summertime scenes of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Although remnants of snow piles still linger throughout the area, there are sure signs that warmer days are on the horizon.

Another Spring Day Dawns

Several robins gathered in my front yard the other day, searching the cold ground for earthworms or insects. A sure sign that spring has arrived in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While residents in our state are currently mandated by the governor’s office to stay home and safe due to the coronavirus pandemic, seeing those beautiful birds out my front window was a reassuring moment that life still goes on even though it may feel like time came to a screeching halt.
